Ottawa Humane Society Honours Community's Contributions at its Annual General Meeting
Sept. 16, 2026 — The Ottawa Humane Society honoured several volunteers, members of the public and community organizations last night at its annual general meeting, celebrating their work towards building a more humane and compassionate community for Ottawa’s animals and the people who love them.
Cat Rescue Network received the Muriel Davies Kindness Award for their work to help advance trap-neuter-release efforts for feral cats to slow Ottawa’s cycle of homeless cats.
Blair Foulkes received the Eleanor Prowse Volunteer Service Award for outstanding volunteer contributions to Ottawa’s homeless animals. Foulkes has been volunteering with the OHS since 2024 and dedicated 180 hours in the past year. Blair works closely with Ottawa’s homeless dogs, providing essential enrichment and behaviour support.
Rideau Valley Wildlife Sanctuary received the Community Spirit Award for their efforts in rehabilitating wildlife in need. Last year, Rideau Valley Wildlife Sanctuary received more than 140 wild animals from the OHS, making more second chances possible for animals in need.
Carter Brown of Mix 98.5 and Cub Carson of Rebel 101.7 received the Media Award for hosting pet of the week segments on their radio shows. Nearly all of the pets featured on the shows have been adopted.
Petsecure received the Special Recognition Award for its contributions to helping keep pets with their people by offering OHS adopters trial pet insurance and making more second chances possible by supporting the OHS Special Needs Fund to help make life-saving medical care possible for homeless animals with complex medical needs.
Sue White received the Siobhan Shefflin Award for her contributions as a foster volunteer that went above and beyond for Ottawa’s animals. Sue fostered 30 animals throughout the year, supporting kittens, nursing mother cats, dogs and puppies.
Dr. Marjorie McIsaac received the Dr. James Hutchinson Animal Welfare Award for her contributions as a chair of the OHS Accessible Veterinary Care Advisory Committee, playing an important role in strengthening Ottawa’s safety net of veterinary care.
The OHS Accessible Veterinary Care Advisory Committee received the President’s Special Recognition Award for their contributions toward the OHS’s upcoming Community Veterinary Clinic. The committee has provided essential insights into the model, structure and design of the upcoming clinic.
The OHS relies on the support of a caring community to provide life-saving care and second chances to Ottawa’s homeless animals. The OHS team remains endlessly grateful for the support of a community ready to stand up for animals in need.
